Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra
ABOUT THE BSO
BSO Music Director Wesley Schulz’s December 2017 departure portends a springtime evolution for the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra. Following an extensive search and rigorous competition for the position relinquished by Wes, BPA and BSO are pleased to welcome two impressive finalists for the role of BSO Music Director, and audience members can help usher in our final selection by attending our spring concerts: Tigran Arakelyan will lead the BSO in Superheroes and Villains! on April 14 and 15, and Bobby Collins will lead the BSO in Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 on June 1 and 3. Guest Conductor Mario Alejandro Torres will step in to conduct the remaining concert of the season, Franck Symphony in D minor on February 17 and 18.
Maestro Wesley Schulz was selected as the BSO’s new Music Director and Conductor in April 2011 after a nationwide search and over 100 applications. He has been lauded by musicians for his “intensity and emotion” in performances and for his “approachable and inspiring” leadership. Since his appointment, he has taken the orchestra and audience members on a dynamic musical journey showcasing winners from the Young Artist Concerto Competition, premiering works specifically commissioned for the BSO by composers Brett Kroening and Erich Stem, joining in an historic collaboration with the Bainbridge Chorale, side-by-side performances with the Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra, collaboration with the University of Puget Sound Orchestra in the massive Mahler First Symphony, and enlisting a star-studded cast of guest performers for each four-concert season filled with masterworks, beloved favorites, and original compositions.

The Bainbridge Orchestra was founded in 1972 by the late David Pence, when the Island’s population was less than 13,000. Adopted under the BPA umbrella in the spring of 1993, and changing its name to the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra in 2006, the Symphony serves a musically rich role in our community uniting artists spanning generations and skill levels, and coming from all walks of life, to share their love of music and learn from each other. The Symphony has consistently enjoyed superb leadership throughout its history in such diverse venues as the Bainbridge High School LGI Theater, Saint Barnabas Church, Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge Alliance Church, and Schneebeck Hall at the University of Puget Sound.
Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and Bainbridge Performing Arts are enduringly grateful to the countless members of the community who have dedicated their time, energy, money, and audience support to this volunteer organization.
